But while the patch fixes the flaw, it doesn’t do as much as the software giant would have you believe: It only fixes the “wormable” exploit that was being worked on by a security researcher, and it does not fix the DoublePulsar vulnerability, which means that the bug would still be exploitable even if the patch had been installed.

Sometimes, after an OS update, the Windows Update error code 80092004 pops up. If you can’t seem to fix it, here is a fix that should work.

Windows Update Error 80092004 6 Fixes Also known as WUA_E_MSI_NO_CONNECTICUT or WUA_E_INVALID_PRODUCT_TYPE, Windows Update Error 80092004 occurs when the Windows Update Agent receives an invalid product key from the server. This problem can occur if the Windows Update Agent has changed product keys during its installation, or if a third-party product has changed its product key while that product key was being used by the Windows Update Agent.

Users must have the following two updates installed before they may install this update.

  • KB4474419: This is an update for Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008. It adds support for SHA-2 signing. Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • The servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is KB4490628.

Before trying to install this update, manually download and apply the following updates. These updates are needed in order to install SHA-2 signed updates on your machine.

This issue may have been caused by faulty cache files encountered by some Windows Update components. 

Step 1: Open the Quick Access menu by pressing Windows Key + X and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).

Step 2: Execute the instructions below one at a time, pressing enter after each one.

Restart your computer and try again to upgrade Windows. The Windows update problem 80092004 should now be resolved.


The name of your SoftwareDistribution folder will be changed to SoftwareDistribution.old using this technique. Any files that Windows need to execute the updates will have to be redownloaded.

Step 1: Open the Quick Access menu by pressing Windows Key + X and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).

If nothing else works, try resetting the Windows Update modules entirely to get them to function again.
