oshodi3Oshodi market is down!

In the early hours of Wednesday January 7, 2015, the Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode personally oversaw the demolition of the Oshodi market which has been there for over 40 years.

NAN reported that the traders and shop owners affected by the markets destruction were relocated to the new Isopakodowo Market in the Bolade area of Oshodi.

The Lagos State government released a statement indicating that it planned to build an “ultra-modern” bus terminal with new bus shelters where Oshodi Market once stood.

This is how Nigerians on Twitter reacted to the news:

On Nairaland, some people had this to say:

1. IyaIode

The railway market at yaba should be next followed by ladipo market.

2. Trailblazer1

LASG should ensure that all the markets in Lagos are closed down ASAP. (Excluding pepper and Tomato sellers)

Let’s see how the Internally Generated Revenue will become 300 billion as estimated

You can keep fabricating valid excuses for this callous path you’ve chosen. undecided

3. Pweetychyka

I feel for my people…

4. Blazetitov

Ok ooo. But i don’t support the idea of pulling the place down when some peoples’ goods are still in the shops. That’s callous!

5. Superstar1

Any savage that is not happy with the restructuring of our market can relocate back to his land of gully erosion.
