These cars once rules Nigerian roads and almost every household that could afford a car had one.
Rugged, dependable and tough we miss seeing them around.
1) The Classic Volkswagen Bettle
First manufactured in 1938, almost all our fathers owned one at one time. A very rugged car indeed but you can hardly find it on Nigerian roads today. Fun fact: this car’s design was Adolf Hitler’s idea
2) The Peugeot 504
The 504 as commonly called was manufactured by French automaker Peugeot between 1968 and 1983.
You’ll try hard to see one on the streets today but many Nigerian families can testify to owning one.
3) The Peugeot 505
First manufactured in 1979 and although not a popular at the 504 in Nigeria, the 505 was also a hit. It sort of offered a bit more options that the ’04.
4) The Mercedes Benz 280
First manufactured in 1959, the Mercedes Benz 280 was the car many of the 504 owners upgraded to at some point. Many owners used theirs until it got knocked.
5) The Volkswagen Santana
Another classic, the Santana was first introduced in 1981 and the last one was built in China on 16 January 2013.
6) Volvo 240/244
7) Nissan 120y
This grandfather car made between 1966 to 2006.
