A lot happened in 2015. But of all these stories, some are the most talked about. Maybe because they were too controversial or just good or too topical to be ignored.
In all, here are the biggest stories of the year 2015:
1. Oba Rilwan Akioluta
During the 2015 elections, no comment received so much reaction as when the Oba of Lagos said Igbos resident in Lagos should cast their votes for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode, or risk perishing inside the lagoon. See here.
2. Zahra Buhari photos
Some say it was the perfect publicity stunt for her father’s campaign. Others say it was a perfectly timed picture. Either way, those photos broke the Internet. See here.
3. Toke Makinwa’s husband and his cheating story
Marriage troubles for Toke Makinwa as her husband cheated on her with his ex-girlfriend, Anita Solomon, whom he got pregnant. See here.
4. Diezani’s arrest and her battle with cancer
Former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, was arrested for several allegations on corruption. While Nigerians were just getting off on that, photos of Diezani battling with cancer were released and the talks began anew. See here.
5. Ministerial screening
It is probable that never in Nigerian history was any ministerial screening so well talked as this year’s. But of the then ministerial nominees, the Nigerian media stopped to watch Babatunde Fashola and Rotimi Amaechi. See here.
6. Super Eagles and Coach Sunday Oliseh
In the heat of a clash between Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh and Vincent Enyeama, Enyeama resigned from the Nigerian team. Nigerian football fans were still trying to grasp that when Emmanuel Emenike too announced his retirement. See here.
7. Linda Ikeji’s N500 Million Mansion
Popular Blogger, Linda Ikeji, bought a house in Banana Island. Weeks after till date, Nigerians are still talking about it. See here.
8. Biafra protest awakens
It all started with agitations on Radio Biafra by Nnamdi Kanu. Then it became the protests in some south-eastern states. When the protests started in Onitsha, it was so bad the Nigerian Army got involved. See here.
9. Sugabelly’s alleged rape story
Sugabelly story developed on a daily: the insults on Kogi Governorship candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar, before and after his death; her shocking revelations of rape involving Mustapha Audu and others; Mustapha’s reply; and other accusations came up. See here.
10. Chelsea’s bad year
This year hasn’t been it Chelsea. After having won the league last year, all eyes were on them this year. Maybe those eyes gave them cold feet and the fans have received every share of the tongue-lashing. See here.
